Use this link to save an extra 20% off any regular priced order. I love SierraTradingPost.com for their everyday low prices so when I saw this 20% off coupon I had to post it. Suze Orman is the financial guru for the rest of us. She gives very easy to understand; almost dumb down, financial information that many of us don’t seem to understand looking at the current credit crisis. On the web site SuzeOrman.com Orman states she is an “internationally acclaimed financial expert.” Suze Orman was also named one of Time Magazines most influential people of 2008. I like Suze Orman for her no nonsense and entertaining financial advice, but I’m not sure if she would have gotten as far as she has without making several appearances on Oprah. A lot of her advice has to do with getting out of debt, starting a nest egg, and improving your credit score. All of which I’d say is common sense… for this reason I feel Suze Orman is more of a motivational speaker getting people to do what they know they should do. Suze Orman first real job was at Merrill Lynch which is how her financial career started. She recommends Vanguard's S&P 500 index fund (VFINX) or its Total Stock Market index fund (VTSMX). Suze Orman also recommends “Exchange-traded funds that let you own particular sectors, like iShares MSCI Emerging Markets (EEM), United States Oil Fund (USO) or the Metals & Mining SPDR (XME) (Money.CNN.com).” If Suze Orman’s common sense and entertaining approach to financial health gets people to take action than I’m all for it.

You don’t have to buy a Toyota Prius or wait until the GM Volt comes out in 2010. You can get 120 miles to the gallon right now with a scooter! “The size of a scooter’s engine can range from 50 cc’s to 650 cc’s. A scooter with a smaller engine of 50 cc’s can get up to 120 miles per gallon with a top speed about 48 miles per hour. A larger scooter with an engine of 650 cc’s can get 50 mpg and reach 115 mph (Herald-Zeitung.com). From 2002 to 2007 scooter sales have doubled. In the first quarter of 2008 scooter sales are up 24% (MercuryNews.com).” The purchase of a scooter seems like a very sensible solution to high gas prices.

Walmart now has a Craigslist like free classified ad service. Like Craigslist Walmart’s classified ad service is free. I’ve already posted an ad on the Walmart site and I’d say it’s even more user friendly than Craigslist. Not to mention the Walmart interface is much more attractive than the Craigslist text based one. The categories one can post in include cars and vehicles, property for rent, items for sale, jobs, pets, real estate, and tickets. The categories are limited so I’d still use Craigslist as my main free classified as service, but it’s nice to see a large company like Walmart embrace this type of free community enhancing service.
The Freecycle Network is made up of 4,487 groups with 5,223,000 members around the world. It’s a non profit grassroots movement where groups exchange free stuff in order to keep useful garbage out of landfills. The web site turns trash into treasure. Let’s say you were remodeling your kitchen and you wanted some granite tile. Just search the Freecycle Network search engine and boom free granite tile for your construction job! “Anything that is a tangible item, that would otherwise end up in a landfill can be listed (http://www.ahwatukee.com).” Next time I want to get rid of some junk I'm posting for sure... great idea.
